It had been
a long day, Ronny has had it enough, he was pissed off, depressed, and feeling
alone. The past 2 years he spent preparing for the all India scientists league but
he got knocked out by 3 points in the entrance exam. All the sleepless nights,
the painstaking notes, and the hope of all his friends and juniors were
shattered. The visuals of their disappointment tormented him through the night.
He was frustrated. He didn’t know what to do, he knew its not the end of his
life neither that he was alone who fail in the entrance exam, many more of
brilliant colleagues couldn’t get through it, his coaches too condoled him, “cheer
up son! 1 exam is never enough to evaluate a student and 1 setback doesn’t mean
you didn’t deserve it.” Said coach mike, one of the best guides to the exam, they both
with many other students spent hours a day training and solving the most
probable questions to be asked, as a teacher, he had faith in all of his
students.
Then came
the selection period, the most prestigious of universities were admitting the
students, who’ll later go on change the world in their respective fields. But Ronny
was still upset this time not by himself, but because of the students who were
getting admitted to the top universities. As if the shame of failure was not
enough even envy came it for its part.
In front of
his eyes were also the students who were mean, thankless, cunning, and masters
of flunkeyism, the fake friends, the liars, and the cheaters. Students who
wouldn’t pass if it were not for Ronny’s help And they got the best of
universities, seeing the disproportionate distribution of ‘success’ made him
bitter from the inside, he didn’t want to go out, talk to his friends because they’re
all the same, he thought,” All are selfish little bastards who only come when
they need something, turds! why do all the worst people get all the best in the
world!?!” he cried.
But he was
not totally biased, he also saw their late-night study sessions, the flattery
they had to do to the teachers' notes and attention, which paid them in the long
run, their love for the subject, their need for respect and money when they
become someone, their focus and dedication. He saw all of this and more, 1 part
of him wanted the seat, the fame, the qualification, and the other 1 was beating
himself and his ‘friends’ for getting it. He realized the irony and hypocrisy.
Even though
he hated their ways and the people who did it, he also realized his mistakes, the
time he became overconfident, ignorant, and careless about his study, how he
underestimated the load of the jab and overestimated his capacity, how he
wasted time trying to 1 up each other and not collaborating towards the common
goal. How he was so distracted all the time, he was too interested in what
others were doing, and either imitating them or criticizing them. He understood
all the mistakes and decided he’ll if and when get the chance to be where his
friends are today, he’ll not waste the opportunity and make the most of it. This
time he’ll do it for himself and not only be satisfied but also proud of his
results.
