5 am club- book summary

5 am club

Once upon a time there was an entrepreneur with an artist and an advertiser, the later was a billionaire and it seemed he has figured his life out, he was fit, calm, energetic about life and did all a wealthy man could do to enjoy his wealth, he had a guru to guide hm through this process and he was so god at the art of public speaking that we call him the spellbinder since many years the billionaire and the spellbinder worked together to change the world and their work ethics the spellbinder taught them how and what to do and the billionaire applied the teachings and reaped its benefits.

But this guy was no ordinary, he knew how the world works and more Importantly he knew how he worked himself, over the years he had mastered himself, in physical and mental arts… a huge part of the process was to wake up at 5!

The entire book is a story of these 3 people who became friends and discovered the secrets and benefits of waking up at 5. 5 am is essential because its when the dawn begins and yet not everyone is woken up, you can see the sunrise from many parts of the world and it’s the best time to wake up because it is hormonally optimal too.

Key takeaways:

Follow the 20/20/20 formula

It essentially means to spend the first 20 min of you day as you wake up, exercising, next 20 meditating or any mindfulness activity, and the last 20 writing about something, it can be anything, a journal, or some scribing or a to do list.

Follow the process

It takes 66 days to actually keep a habit and do it life time, so to keep this habit, we need to keep doing it for 66 days

Sleep is pivotal for productivity and it is the only point where the entire habit and self-development boils down to.

Some of the quotes that resonated with me

if you sense your life’s a mess right now,

this is simply because your fears are just a little stronger than your faith.

“From a young age, we are programmed into thinking that moving through

life loyal to the values of mastery, ingenuity and decency should need little

effort. And so, if the road gets tough and requires some patience, we think we’re

on the wrong path,”

Walking into the very things that

scare you is how you reclaim your forgotten power. And how you get back the

innocence and awe, you lost after childhood.”

Failure’s just growth in wolf’s clothing.

Geniuses understand that it’s smarter to create one

masterwork than one thousand ordinary pieces.

The flow of life rewards positive

action and punishes hesitation.

The majority is stuck in vague, imprecise thinking. And vague,

imprecise thinking yields vague, imprecise results.

I guess that because of this, they never build the

higher awareness and acumen that will help them make the better choices that

will give them the better results that will make them the legends of their fields.

Consistency really is the DNA of mastery.

Each time you resist a

temptation and pursue an optimization you invigorate your heroism.

An intense concentration only on what

matters most is how the pros realize victory. Simplify. Simplify. Simplify

“The closer you get to your genius, the more you’ll face the sabotage of your

fears,”

EXAMS

Exams were invented/discovered to analyse and improve the student function and to improve his ability to face the world. Exams were a tool for the teachers to evaluate the the students understand the blindspots and fill them. In ancient times the students left their homes and lived with their teachers , rishis and yogis would come to their houses and select their pupils and take them to train the as per their requirements. These trainings would consist of reading of vedas and purans, reciting the mantras and others spiritual practices. Focus was to create a well rounded individual who can face the array of difficulties and challenges life throughs at us. Students were also taught to defend themselves, cook, farm and take care of cattle and other domestic animals. Apart from that one teacher only had 2-5 students at his attention. This built a strong connection between the guru and sheeshya, many could call them a team and they were indeed. An example of individual training comes ...

The Scholar Scoundrel

Over the years of being an average student I always wondered how and what is it that the brilliant students do that sets them apart from the crowd, what magic potion they drink and what notes they make, just like so many of us I've been in the rut of asking the scholars for their notes, much to my chagrin I didn't really see any substantial differences except they were much more organized and diverse than most of the average student's. I saw some of them cramming text books, some referred foreign authors, others were after teachers for...you know why! But still I knew there is something they did differently that made the epiphany. Days past and I forgot about it, everyone does...until the next exam, then again studying late night with my friends I thought "how the hell these scholars do it!!", I mean the time me and my friends are mugging up answers and teaching each other concepts we don't fully understand, bantering over stuff we could have done, and wh...
